DESIRED SKILLS: Prior experience with computer programming. Good working knowledge of one of: FORTRAN or C++ or Java, advantageous. Experience with Linux or LabView also useful.
DESCRIPTION OF JOB: Research in Particle Physics. Several projects exist for undergraduate students to do research related to experimental particle physics. Non-physics majors with interest in physics and strong computing skills are also highly welcome. The student could participate either in research related to the D0 experiment working eg. on the track trigger, participating in data-taking at Fermilab, analyzing collider data, or could work on projects related to the International Linear Collider including design of new particle detectors, building and testing prototype detector elements, Monte Carlo simulations of detector and physics performance, making animations of particle interactions with matter, and related data analysis. These projects can lead to the opportunity to present results at scientific meetings, and to scientific publications.
